her name is mel. that's all that people find certain of about her: her name. and even then her name changes with her mood, she's got two of them, and a few others you don't know of.

you know something's wrong with your brain when you have a paper due in one hour and you find yourself with the completely astounding ability to churn out four pages of complex sounding crap in one hour. its gp. its the a levels. two pages more to go, and here is an excerpt of what i have written about the republic despite really not having read it properly at all (or finished it for that matter):

The tripartite soul, as Socrates describes it, consists of desire, spirit and rationality. This can be reflected in reason, persuasion and coercion as well – desire is the most base part in which a man’s appetites can drive him to war, the spirited part of the soul is that that is based on personal beliefs and then there is opinion and rationality which is the search for truth and reason. Not all men are perfectly balanced. The constant tension between these three parts of the soul, of methods of argument and rule seems to be the way in which true justice will be brought about. This is displayed in the very last book of The Republic in which Socrates talks about the afterlife and how true reason will help one choose the best option and benefit one the most in his next life.

sure it sounds well and good, but really if you've read the book and if you think about it properly, this is pure, pure, drivel. and i am pretty sure my university of chicago professor is going to see right through it. sigh, it's only the first quarter and i seem to be setting myseld up to flunk out of class!? one hour left and two more pages of nonsense to write.

i kind of feel like Miranda from SATC in that the thai food takeout lady knows our orders almost by heart now. which is almost sad, today when i ordered she said, 'no iced tea tonight?'

except this isn't due to lack of life but rather due to bad dining hall food and being too lazy to take the bus there for dinner at night and also having too much work and i slept at 5am last night because i was distracted at different times by two roommates (no, not mine) who seemed to take turns asking me very personal questions while i was trying hard to write my paper which was due the next day. those koreans and puerto ricans.

yes. i have written my first college paper and pulled an 'all-nighter' because of it (slept at 5, woke at 8). i am officially back in school now, i think. haven't done one of those in AGES, and i like it in a very masochistic english-major way but i think my paper was not very good, which is sad. i have also adopted the american habit of drinking coffee (starbucks) in the mornings and carrying around those thermos coffee cup things to keep warm and keep awake.

so far in my stay here it has snowed (and for the uneducated, it really SHOULD NOT be snowing at this time of the year here), i have experienced a ten hour blackout in which i had to shower and get ready for class in the dark, there was a fire alarm prank at four am and ... a lot of rain.

also tagboard doesn't work and if someone could advise me on how to remove it and install a new one that would be much appreciated.

i have experienced the quintessential american college life. i went for a frat party last weekend. it was more fun than i expected. i'd like to go out again this weekend but it throws my sleep system way out of whack and i seriously need to start studying more (am behind in my Republic readings. Plato's Republic is seriously the most dry piece of literature ever written, in my opinion) and if i join UT, it's going to take up a lot of my time.
